Yogyakarta

The making of Batik is a painfully slow process.

There are two methods:  The original hand-crafted method, and a slightly faster stamping method.

Stamping involves the use of a stamp (obviously) which is dipped into wax and then applied to material:

After the wax has been applied, the material is dyed.  Then more wax is added/the wax is melted away depending upon the requirements, and the material is re-coloured.  The process is repeated as necessary.

The hand made version first involves enlarging the pattern by hand
Wax is then applied by hand to the material before dying as before.  This traditional technique is known as batik tulis.
